Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Policies

Purpose
The purpose of interlibrary loan is to borrow needed materials that are not available in the University Library for Texas State faculty, students, and staff. This includes materials that are checked out from the library’s general collection or are otherwise unavailable for immediate checkout. Materials that owned by the Wittliff Collections that are "library use only" may also be requested via interlibrary loan.

Access
Interlibrary loan and document delivery are available to all faculty, staff, graduate, and undergraduate students at Texas State University.

Charges
- No charges are assessed to the patron unless the material is damaged or lost.
- There is a $1000.00 (paid by the library) total limit per patron for borrowing costs other than those associated with loss or damage.

Overdue Material
- A notice will be sent to patrons having overdue interlibrary loan material.
- If the material is not returned after multiple notices, a manual hold will be put on the patron’s circulation record.
- Until the material is returned or paid for, the patron may be unable to check out materials from the Alkek Library or obtain a transcript.
- The patron will be responsible for all charges assessed by the lending library if the item is lost or damaged.

Turnaround Time
- Copies of articles may be obtained within 48 hours.
- The average turnaround time for materials through interlibrary loan is 3 to 7 days.

Copyright Compliance
- In filling requests for copies of articles, the library complies with Title 17, Section 108 of the United States Code governing the reproduction of copyrighted works.
